East Asia is widely considered as a region of emerging power. All the developed economies have been moving their regards toward this area and looking for opportunity for partnership in order to access this huge Asian market. It is also a region where the regional integration movement is unripened but is getting more and more fervent. Since 2010, we are witnessing various economic regional integration scheme being proposed by great powers worldwide. This talk thus would like to address this phenomenon. It contains a general introduction on the history, culture and international relations in East Asia, and Taiwan’s place in the region. Special axis will be placed on the economic dimension, introducing the characteristic flying geese model, the regionalism/regionalization development in different pace, and Taiwan’s position in this economic model.
